Winter photo trip
Finnish Lapland
January 23-30, 2027

Winter landscape and Northern Lights
Deeply snow-covered winter landscapes, column-like frozen spruce trees, low-lying winter sun and nighttime Northern Lights – these are the destinations of the new winter photo tour to Finnish Lapland.
Our accommodation is located right at the entrance to Urho Kekkonen National Park near Kiilopää. We stay there in several small log cabins (44 square meters for two people and 30 square meters for two people), each with its own sauna.
Snowshoes will be available all week and, in addition to various tours in the national park, we will also plan a longer trip to see the wild reindeer near Utsjoki.
Dinner (buffet) and breakfast in the Fjellstation restaurant are included.
In addition to the fabulous landscape photography, there is also the option of using a typical Finnish smoke sauna or going on a snowshoe tour on your own.
The nearest airport is Ivalo, only about 35 minutes from our camp.

Arrival and departure
Arrival and departure are arranged individually, so we can travel by minibus from Ivalo airport to the accommodation.
Useful information
Every day we have the opportunity to go snowshoeing, either on short tours within the national park itself or to destinations in the surrounding area. Of course, the Northern Lights are always a focus, so we can adjust our daily program accordingly.
The length of the day is still quite manageable in mid to late January, but for us the time before and after sunset will also be interesting when the sky is bathed in pastel shades.
Temperatures can easily drop to -30°C in winter, which sounds very cold at first, but is quite bearable due to the dry air. Nevertheless, layering warm clothing is extremely important.
Baggage
I recommend a sturdy, water-resistant travel bag as your main piece of luggage. Please DO NOT use suitcases! Carry your daypack with the essentials (e.g., camera equipment, packed lunch, drinks, wind/rain jacket, personal medication, etc.).
Important instructions
Naturally, my goal is to complete all program points. However, due to weather conditions, snowstorms or icy conditions may occasionally lead to road closures. In such cases, we will spend the day comfortably at our accommodation, using the time for activities such as photo editing or taking pictures in the surrounding area.
Furthermore, I would like to expressly point out that everyone participates in the trip at their own risk.
In Finland, as in several other Scandinavian countries, paying with cash has become completely uncommon. Credit cards are the preferred payment method everywhere.

There are plenty of opportunities on site to enjoy some peace and quiet, to go to the sauna, or simply to explore the area with the provided snowshoes. Cross-country skiing equipment rental is also available.
We will be visiting a reindeer farm and going on a dog sledding tour during the week.
